دکتر Abhideep Chaudhary, Liver Transplant Surgeon at بیمارستان جیپی، نویدا talks about why Mongolians are more prone to get affected by a liver condition.

Mongolia has a very high burden of liver disease. The cause of which is not very well known but a significant amount of their population is suffering from viral hepatitis, which includes Hepatitis B, C and D. Because of which Mongolians have a very high burden of liver cirrhosis and liver cancer. If you look at world data, they have the highest per million population mortality rate because of liver disease, and a lot of patients end up requiring liver transplantation.

Dr Abhideep Chaudhary talked about the initial condition of a Mongolian patient who underwent a high-risk liver transplant in India, under his supervision.

“This patient came to us with end-stage liver disease, with jaundice and various problems because of the liver. Her liver was failing, and she was in a very weak stage.”

The patient had been suffering from a liver problem since 2011. The same year she went to Korea to receive further analysis, in which a liver disease was detected, however, she didn’t get any treatment for it. Then a few months ago, her condition started getting worse, on receiving medical help, she was told, that if she does not receive medical attention on time, she might die.

So, she got serious and decided to come to India for a liver transplant surgery.

Her son became her donor, "and both of them recovered very well without having any problem. The important thing here was they decided to go for transplant well on time. The transplant success depends on how well the patient is and how well the surgery is timed. If all is timed well, then a good success rate of more than 95% can be achieved for the patient, with 100% donor safety.”
